China has become Africa’s main trading partner.

These data were presented at a symposium on investment cooperation between China and Africa, which has become an important part of the 15th China International Trade and Investment Fair.

Direct investments had totaled $ 13.04 billion of the total Chinese investments in sub-Saharan continent by the end of last year.

Only for 2010 the figure had been $ 2.11 billion. This is by 46.8% more than in 2009.

In addition, up to 10 000 new jobs were created.

According to the Ministry of Commerce of China, by the end of 2009, Chinese investment in the mining industry of African countries will be 29% of total world investments.

In 2007, the volume of oil imports from Africa to China amounted to 12.5% of the total African oil exports.

Add that a high level symposium on investment cooperation between China and Africa was held in Xiamen on September 8, 2011.

It was organized by the Ministry of Commerce of China and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The organizers of structures for Investment Promotion of the more than 30 African countries took part in the symposium.

Among Chinese connoisseurs, who can afford to spend a lot of money on items of high art, the commemorative items relating to famous films and people are especially popular.

According to European experts, for the past twenty years, the cost of such purchases by Chinese rich men has risen 10 times.

Note that there are from 400 to 500 billionaires in China now.

The country occupies first place in the world in the number of billionaires.

And they prefer to invest money in art and antiques, as the price of the property does not depend on market fluctuations.

As a rule, things of European and American celebrities are subjects that certainly attract the attention of Chinese collectors.

In October 2011, Macao will hold the auction of celebrity’s accessories. Marilyn Monroe’s dress, Madonna’s bras, plate with the signature of John Lennon and others will be exposed there.

Next three days, a leak of radioactive substances after the accident at the nuclear power plant in Japan, will mainly affect central and northern Japanese island of Honshu and won’t have impact on China.

According to Xinhua, the experts of Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre of the World Meteorological Organization in Beijing came to this conclusion.

According to the forecast weather, rainy weather is expected in Japan at night on March 15 and day March 16 in the earthquake zone and in the zone of the leakage of radioactive substances, and on March 17 there will be a cloudy weather.

Precipitation, on the one hand, will contribute to the sedimentation of radioactive substances, on the other hand, will have a negative impact on efforts to eliminate the consequences of impact of elements.

As previously reported state management of nuclear safety at the Ministry of Environment of China, according to results of monitoring in China, no radiological abnormalities have not yet reported. All active units of Chinese nuclear power plant are in a safe condition.

In accordance with the requirements of the Ministry, the agency monitoring the radiation situation of northeastern province of Heilongjiang recently sent workers with technical equipment in Dongning County, which borders on Russia, to monitor radiation level.

In connection with the explosions at nuclear power plants in Japan, the Ministry of Environment of the PRC on March 12 demanded that the subordinate services of Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong, as well as the cities of Tianjin, Beijing and Shanghai to take the necessary measures to strengthen control over the level of radiation on their territories.

Since March 15, the areas of Sino-Russian border have been included in this list in the supplementary order.

According to the ministry, the raise of radiation level has not yet been recorded in the above mentioned areas of China.

On March 11, the accident occurred at Japanese Nuclear Power Plant “Fukushima-1″, caused by a powerful magnitude 9 earthquake.

The accident resulted in a leak of radioactive substances. Subsequently, emergencies occurred at some other nearby nuclear power plants.

Accidents and emergencies at Japanese nuclear plants “Fukushima-1″, “Fukushima-2″, “Oganava” and “Tokai” began after the tsunami, caused by a powerful earthquake, that led to blackouts. Thus reactor cooling system got out of order.

Recall also that the accidents on “Fukushima-1″ were followed by radiation leaks and emissions of harmful substances.

In the area of nuclear plants, radiation was up to 400 millisieverts per hour, which is almost 1000 times higher than the maximum allowable index (500 microsieverts per hour).

As previously informed by company-operator of the plant, the radiation level at the gate of the plant “Fukushima-1″ has grown to 10 millisieverts per hour (about 10 thousand microsieverts).

Humane and unprecedented amendments to the Criminal Code in 1979 were approved on Friday at a regular session of the Standing Committee of the NPC, which ended in Beijing, according to China.org.cn.

Swedish Volvo Cars, bought by Chinese Zhejiang Geely, intends over the next five years to invest up to $ 11 billion in business expansion to double the production of vehicles.

The main emphasis, as expected, will be put on expansion in China. Analysts, however, doubt that the company will achieve its goals.

Geely has purchased Volvo from Ford in August 2010 for 1.5 billion dollars by promising to save the power of the auto-maker in Europe.

Last Friday in Beijing, the company’s management announced its plans to develop the company.

In particular, Volvo intends to invest in its business 10-11 billion dollars over the next five years.

Much of these funds will go to China. By 2013, the company will build a plant in Chengdu (south-west China) which will be capable of producing 100 thousands.

It is also considering the possibility to build a plant in the north-eastern Daqing.

In addition, in Shanghai there will be the headquarters of Volvo in China and a centre of design, development and supply. “China is playing an important role in this plan of growth.

We also look forward to significant growth in the U.S., Europe, and in the extremely attractive foreign markets like Australia and Brazil,”- said General Director of Volvo Cars, Stefan Jacoby.

In addition, money will be invested in the creation of new models, platforms and power plants.

Volvo intends to attract the required funds from Geely, from European investment banks and the governments of Belgium, where the production facilities are located.

By opening up production sites, Volvo expects to increase sales in China from 30,5 thousand to 200 thousand vehicles by 2015.

For comparison, Audi sold 228 thousand cars here last year, BMW – 169 thousand cars, and Daimler – 148 thousand cars.

At the same time, the Chinese have bought 495 thousand cars produced by Geely last year.

Car sales in China, a major automotive market in the world, grew in 2010 by one third, which is 18.1 million units (including light trucks and buses).

Analysts took Volvo plans with scepticism. “They will build a factory next to the existing company Geely, and this is a big plus.

They intend to export cars from China to other Asian countries, and it’s a great idea. The problem is that they put too ambitious production targets for a very short time.

They start with a very small level, and I’m not sure they will succeed”, – told the analyst of IHS Global Insight Paul Newton to RBC daily. Although in general Chinese support is definitely good for Volvo, he added.

Business development in China should help Volvo to achieve even more ambitious goal – to double car production, up to 800 thousand units over the next ten years.

In 2010, Volvo sold 373.5 thousand cars around the world. Last year, Volvo got profit for the first time since 2005, and, according to Mr. Jacoby, the Group intends to consolidate this result, in 2011.
