China became the world leader in the number of activations of new devices with operating systems iOS and Android.

According to the research company Flurry Analytics, in February this year, China has got about 24% of activations of new smartphones and tablets (on both platforms), while in the U.S. – 21% of the devices for the same period of time.

For comparison, last year China had only 8% of activations of iOS / Android-devices in the world, and the U.S. – 28%.

Flurry statistics is based on counting sessions.

For example, if a user opened news application, and spent two minutes to read the article, it shall be counted as one session.

Comparing the data of I quarter of 2011 with the same period of 2012, Flurry also made a list of ten countries with the fastest growth of sessions.

The rating was headed by China (1.100%), which took only a seventh place last year.

The second place went to Argentina (599%), the third – to the Philippines (546%).

Fourth place was taken by Russia (514%), and the fifth – Belgium (467%).

In the III quarter last year, China outstripped the United States for the first time in the fight for the title of the largest smartphone market in sales volume.

The experts say, the main reasons for the growth of is the increasing availability of smartphones in retail, operators’ active subsidizing of expensive devices and the emergence of cheaper models on the Android platform from local vendors such as ZTE.

In February 2012, China became the first country where the number of mobile subscribers has exceeded one billion people.

The Central Bank of Australia has agreed on currency exchange rates with its partners from China, reports AFP.

The regulators will share 30 billion Australian dollars (US 31.2 billion dollars) and the appropriate amount of yuan.

The purpose of the transaction is to support trade and investment programs carried out between two countries.

For China it means the continuation of the policy of “internationalization” of its currency, which is still not fully convertible.

The PRC government deliberately restricts convertibility of the currency, fearing its uncontrolled growth, which would damage Chinese industry.

China is one of Australia’s key trading partners and vice versa.

In 2010, trade volume between two countries reached 106 billion Australian dollars.

Australia supplies Beijing with vital natural resources, including iron ore.

At the same time, China is an exporter of a wide range of manufactured goods to Australia.

Some Australian companies have already started trading with China in yuan.

Fortescue Metals Mining Group has signed its first deal in 2011.

China, in turn, has already carried out transactions in yuan and local currencies with several countries.

First of all, these are the states of East Asia, Middle East and Latin America.

The agreement on stock trading in yuan and rubles exists in China and Russia.

Next three days, a leak of radioactive substances after the accident at the nuclear power plant in Japan, will mainly affect central and northern Japanese island of Honshu and won’t have impact on China.

According to Xinhua, the experts of Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre of the World Meteorological Organization in Beijing came to this conclusion.

According to the forecast weather, rainy weather is expected in Japan at night on March 15 and day March 16 in the earthquake zone and in the zone of the leakage of radioactive substances, and on March 17 there will be a cloudy weather.

Precipitation, on the one hand, will contribute to the sedimentation of radioactive substances, on the other hand, will have a negative impact on efforts to eliminate the consequences of impact of elements.

As previously reported state management of nuclear safety at the Ministry of Environment of China, according to results of monitoring in China, no radiological abnormalities have not yet reported. All active units of Chinese nuclear power plant are in a safe condition.

In accordance with the requirements of the Ministry, the agency monitoring the radiation situation of northeastern province of Heilongjiang recently sent workers with technical equipment in Dongning County, which borders on Russia, to monitor radiation level.

In connection with the explosions at nuclear power plants in Japan, the Ministry of Environment of the PRC on March 12 demanded that the subordinate services of Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong, as well as the cities of Tianjin, Beijing and Shanghai to take the necessary measures to strengthen control over the level of radiation on their territories.

Since March 15, the areas of Sino-Russian border have been included in this list in the supplementary order.

According to the ministry, the raise of radiation level has not yet been recorded in the above mentioned areas of China.

On March 11, the accident occurred at Japanese Nuclear Power Plant “Fukushima-1″, caused by a powerful magnitude 9 earthquake.

The accident resulted in a leak of radioactive substances. Subsequently, emergencies occurred at some other nearby nuclear power plants.

Accidents and emergencies at Japanese nuclear plants “Fukushima-1″, “Fukushima-2″, “Oganava” and “Tokai” began after the tsunami, caused by a powerful earthquake, that led to blackouts. Thus reactor cooling system got out of order.

Recall also that the accidents on “Fukushima-1″ were followed by radiation leaks and emissions of harmful substances.

In the area of nuclear plants, radiation was up to 400 millisieverts per hour, which is almost 1000 times higher than the maximum allowable index (500 microsieverts per hour).

As previously informed by company-operator of the plant, the radiation level at the gate of the plant “Fukushima-1″ has grown to 10 millisieverts per hour (about 10 thousand microsieverts).

Swedish Volvo Cars, bought by Chinese Zhejiang Geely, intends over the next five years to invest up to $ 11 billion in business expansion to double the production of vehicles.

The main emphasis, as expected, will be put on expansion in China. Analysts, however, doubt that the company will achieve its goals.

Geely has purchased Volvo from Ford in August 2010 for 1.5 billion dollars by promising to save the power of the auto-maker in Europe.

Last Friday in Beijing, the company’s management announced its plans to develop the company.

In particular, Volvo intends to invest in its business 10-11 billion dollars over the next five years.

Much of these funds will go to China. By 2013, the company will build a plant in Chengdu (south-west China) which will be capable of producing 100 thousands.

It is also considering the possibility to build a plant in the north-eastern Daqing.

In addition, in Shanghai there will be the headquarters of Volvo in China and a centre of design, development and supply. “China is playing an important role in this plan of growth.

We also look forward to significant growth in the U.S., Europe, and in the extremely attractive foreign markets like Australia and Brazil,”- said General Director of Volvo Cars, Stefan Jacoby.

In addition, money will be invested in the creation of new models, platforms and power plants.

Volvo intends to attract the required funds from Geely, from European investment banks and the governments of Belgium, where the production facilities are located.

By opening up production sites, Volvo expects to increase sales in China from 30,5 thousand to 200 thousand vehicles by 2015.

For comparison, Audi sold 228 thousand cars here last year, BMW – 169 thousand cars, and Daimler – 148 thousand cars.

At the same time, the Chinese have bought 495 thousand cars produced by Geely last year.

Car sales in China, a major automotive market in the world, grew in 2010 by one third, which is 18.1 million units (including light trucks and buses).

Analysts took Volvo plans with scepticism. “They will build a factory next to the existing company Geely, and this is a big plus.

They intend to export cars from China to other Asian countries, and it’s a great idea. The problem is that they put too ambitious production targets for a very short time.

They start with a very small level, and I’m not sure they will succeed”, – told the analyst of IHS Global Insight Paul Newton to RBC daily. Although in general Chinese support is definitely good for Volvo, he added.

Business development in China should help Volvo to achieve even more ambitious goal – to double car production, up to 800 thousand units over the next ten years.

In 2010, Volvo sold 373.5 thousand cars around the world. Last year, Volvo got profit for the first time since 2005, and, according to Mr. Jacoby, the Group intends to consolidate this result, in 2011.

Population of China by the end of 2010 rose by six million people and totaled 1 billion 341 million people, said China’s State Statistical Bureau on Monday.

The Bureau noted that these data are still preliminary. The real demographic situation in China will be unveiled in the coming months, after the completion of the processing of the latest census, which was held in November last year.

It is not excluded that the data on the number of Chinese citizens will be increased in the final version.

The population census is conducted in China once in about 10 years.

The first census was held in China in 1953, then in 1964, 1982, 1990 and 2000.

According to the results of the first census, the population was 601.912.371 people, while in 2000 this figure amounted to 1 billion 265.33 million people.

As reported by Sinuha citing GUS on Monday, at the end of 2009 China’s population was 1.335 billion people. Thus, over the past year the number of inhabitants was increased by six million people.

In order to control population growth, since the 80-ies, the PRC authorities implemented a policy called “one family – one child”.

In recent years, many experts doubt the advisability of its continuation, noting the growing number of elderly people and the reduction of working-age population.

According to the outlook of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, issued on Monday, by 2015 the number of people over 60 years in China will reach 216 million people, which exceeds 16% of the total population
